windows vista beta 2 install error

windows vista beta 2 install error

i get this error when i enter cd key and click next "cannot load file image" and then it cancles the install. why?

Hard to tell - but most likely it's a bad image on the disk that you're using to install it. Clean the disc off (very carefully) and try again. If not, try another one (or another download)
Did you check the checksum on the file that made up the iso when you downloaded it?

You may have burned the dvd at too high a speed. MS advises using the slowest possible speed. You should be using a function like "burn image to disc."
Next post, please give some details about your system and how you are trying to install Vista.

Had similar problems with my testbox, hardware issues. As it was a clean install I put a base copy of XP in first then all the hardware drivers for XP, then did an upgrade install of Vista over it. Worked fine. My problem I think was using a ex HP Box Western Digital SATA drive which I have had problems with before, it just happened to be spare so I used it for Vista.
Try
that approach, might work. Also burn another DVD at 2 x speed and do not touch the PC while its burning a DVD.

I believe that is one of the file copy errors. That still indicates a burn issue. Can you burn on the same drive that you will use to install from?

Mr. Gypsy--
I agree it's probably the burn. 4X should be plenty slow enough. I know MSFT has been posting to burn slower lol than some burners actually have. Also activity on the PC during the burn shouldn't influence it one scintilla although the impulse is to think it would.
Try this little tip as well next time you burn if you still haven't gotten setup to complete--also make sure you're closing the session and if your burning software has the ability to choose "burn ISO" as Nero has in their versions then use that.
Also
check these steps which could help.
Get to Dev Manager by typing devmgmt.msc in run/win key + pause break or Rt. click My Computer>Prop>hardware tab>Device Manager if you like 5 steps instead of one cmd. If you're set to PMI here change to DMO and if set to DMO change to PMI:
a.. Click the + in front of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers a.. Double Click the Secondary IDE Controller a.. Click Advanced Settings a.. Under Device 1 Next to Transfer Mode choose DMA (or vise versa) a.. Click OK a.. Reboot your System
Good luck,
CH
